By day, Beryl Ohas is an Associate Scientist. By night, she writes about the reactions that science cannot fully explain the ones between people. She believes that while science reveals how life works, stories reveal why we love, heal, persevere, and ultimately find where we belong.

Born in Kenya and now based in Ireland, Beryl is also an author, journalist, speaker, human rights advocate, and Equity, and content creator . Her work bridges the worlds of science, literature, and social impact, creating spaces where curiosity, compassion, and meaningful dialogue can thrive which made her win Personal of the year GALAS awards 2023

Passionate about advancing inclusion, Beryl has collaborated with schools, universities, organisations, and corporate teams, helping them move beyond conversations about diversity towards cultures of genuine belonging. Through workshops, keynote talks, panel discussions, and storytelling, she inspires audiences to embrace empathy, challenge bias, and recognise the power of every voice.

Her debut novel, Confessions of a Clumsy Lesbian, is an African-Irish literary novel that follows a young woman forced to flee persecution because of her sexuality and rebuild her life in Ireland. Exploring migration, identity, resilience, and the search for belonging, the novel reflects Beryl’s commitment to telling stories that amplify underrepresented voices with honesty, warmth, and hope. She is also a contributor to the anthology Dubeloving.

Whether writing fiction, speaking at events, championing human rights, or working in science, Beryl believes that stories have the power to transform lives. Her work is driven by one simple conviction: the most extraordinary chemistry isn’t always discovered in a laboratory it is often found in the connections we build with one another.
